Aaniin Community Centre and Library – Markham, ON
Forum Athletic was excited to be a part of the City of Markham’s most recent Community Centre build. The Markham South East Community Centre is slated to open in mid November, meeting the ever-growing need for recreational facilities. The design, based on extensive consultation with the community features a triple gymnasium, fitness centre, aquatic rock-climbing wall, a running and walking track, 25-metre pool, therapeutic pool, and sauna.
A recent announcement re-named the new community centre the “Aaniin Community Centre and Library”. The name “Aaniin,” means “hello” or “welcome” in Ojibway. It was chosen to welcome Markham’s many diverse communities, to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary in 2017 and in honour of our First Nation’s people.
In the gymnasium our installation included ceiling mounted backstops, wall mount side fold backstops, electrafold gymnasium divider curtains, and Irwin Telescopic Bleacher Seating for spectators. Gooseneck backstops were also installed on the outdoor courts to provide an option for basketball in fair weather.
The General Contractor on the project was Bondfield Construction and the architect was Perkins + Will Canada Architects.
